Meeting with the European Union Delegation to Cambodia
24 October 2023
Meeting with H.E. Igor Driesmans, the newly appointed EU ambassador to Cambodia, was the first stop on the tour. Among the subjects covered was the new government's course. Will the Pentagonal approach result in laws that can be enforced? Although there was hope for better waste management, concerns about open taxation, human rights violations, and a cooling real estate market still exist.
Following his trips to the US and China, the delegation was eager to learn how the EU fits into Prime Minister H.E. Hun Manet's plans. Ensuring Cambodia's competitiveness was another important topic that came up during the discussion. It is official that the Kingdom will reach middle-income status by 2024, but there are a few years of grace periods available for Cambodia to switch to other trade agreements, like GSP+.
